This page says what is held, what is shown, and what is not. It is short because the site holds little.

What is public once you publish

Your name, your photograph if you add one, anything you write about yourself, your link to fasola.org if you give one, and your list of songs.

Published pages are open to search engines, so your page may appear in results for your name. That is deliberate: a family searching for somebody months later is exactly who this site is for. If you would rather it were not public, take your page out of public view — your songs are kept, and your web address is held for you.

What is never shown

• Your email address. It never appears on any page, in any search result, or in anything we send to anybody else.
• Your trusted contact's name and address. These are never published. The report form will not tell anybody who you nominated, or whether they guessed correctly.

What is held

Your email address, your profile, your list of songs, your trusted contact's name and address, and — if your page becomes a memorial — the date of death if one was given and who confirmed it. Records of memorialisations and of corrections made by the operator are kept, so that a page locked in error can be explained and undone.

Sign-in links and sessions are held only as one-way hashes, so a copy of the files cannot be used to sign in as anybody.

What we do not check

We do not verify your trusted contact's details. We do not know whether the address you gave is theirs, and we cannot tell you if it is wrong.

Who we send things to

Only you, and only your nominated contact. Mail is sent through our own mail server. We do not sell anything, share anything, or send anything you did not ask for.

Visitor numbers

We count page views using PostHog, to know whether the site is being used. No name, email address, or anything else identifying you is ever sent, and visitors' network addresses are anonymised. Nothing is used for advertising.

Deletion

Taking your page out of public view hides it from everybody but you. Records are otherwise deleted only where required by a court order or by law enforcement, and that is done by hand. This is a memorial archive: it is meant to outlast the people in it.
