Parting Hand is a small, independent site. It is run by one person, and these terms are written to be read rather than to be impressive.
What this site is for
It lets a Sacred Harp singer record the songs they would like sung at their funeral, and lets anyone read those wishes afterwards. It is a record of what somebody asked for. It is not a will, it is not a contract, and it places no obligation on anybody to sing anything.
Your account
You sign in with a link sent to your email address. That address is the only credential, so keep access to it. If you lose access, write to hal@haleisen.com and it can be changed by hand.
One person, one page, one list. Please do not create a page for somebody else, living or dead.
What you publish
When you publish your page it becomes visible to anyone, and may appear in search engine results for your name. You can take it out of public view at any time, and your web address is kept for you.
You are responsible for what you write about yourself. Please do not put anything on your page that is not yours to publish, or anything about another person who has not agreed to it.
Your trusted contact
You may nominate one person to tell us when you have died. We write to them once to say you have named them. We do not check that the address is right or that the person agreed, so please ask them first and check what you typed.
When somebody reports a passing
Anyone may report that a singer has died, but only the address that singer nominated is sent a link to confirm it. Confirming turns the page into a memorial and locks it: the songs stay exactly as they were left, and nobody — including the person whose page it is — can change them afterwards.
If a page is locked in error, write to hal@haleisen.com. It can be undone.
What we do not promise
This site is provided as it is, without warranty. It may be unavailable, it may lose data, and it may one day stop. Please do not treat it as the only place your wishes are written down — tell the people who will be there.
Ending your use
You can take your page out of public view whenever you like. Records are otherwise only deleted where the law requires it; see the privacy page.
